Skywatch Friday - Camotes Island

Santiago Bay, Camotes Island, Cebu

“Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead He set before your eyes the things that He had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that?”

— St. Augustine (354-430)

You have quoted St. Augustine in your piece and with your photographs. And it fits perfectly.

The problem is, with most people, the same words apply to any spot on earth. And you can live on a poor dirt farm in the south or in Ohio where I live and running naked through the wet grass is just a nice here as it is walking through the ocean on the beach in Cebu.

Or, live in New York City. God didn't make the architecture, but the place he did make is where New York City stands.

I love these two photographs for lots of reasons but St. Augustine's quote and the pictures make me think how fortunate we all are to be here and not a scrap of space dust drifting through eternity.

Have a nice weekend in Cebu.

A lot of people think mystics and saints are just looking up to the skies in prayer and wondering they would die and go to Heaven.

St. Augustine speaks spiritual living to the core---"reading" God's creation and magnificence through His works: LIFE!

Thanks for sharing this quote, Luna! I have copied it and will send it to some people I know who have to be reminded to go to the beach :-)!
