Colon Street [lansangan] - Litratong Pinoy

This is the intersection of Colon and Juan Luna Streets, one of the most crowded streets in Downtown Cebu.  A fusion of people and vehicles can be found here. Colon Street is often referred to as the oldest street in the Philippines.  It used to be the center of business and commerce  in this city where high-end stores, offices and theaters were located.  The street was named after Christopher Columbus and its origins can be traced back to the town plan made by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the Spanish conquistador who arrived in the Philippines in 1565 to establish a colony.

Colon Street now looks run-down, the buildings need a fresh coat of paint and renovation.  I hope the local government would be able to rejuvenate Colon Street and restore the old Cebu charm, possibly making this street a heritage site.

Near Colon is a street leading to the Cebu Cathedral.  There are no pedestrian lanes so people cross at the middle of the intersection.  Vendors are also parked at the side of the street, hampering the flow of traffic.  I can imagine the traffic situation here when there is a mass or a church event.

It's sad to see an old street fall into disrepair. The city is full of such colourful vehicles!

sana nga mas mapreserve ang mga lumang lansangan for their historical value at hindi yung puro malls na lang.

Dapat ngang imakeover yang streets na yan, one way to boost tourism and businesses. It will do wonders if the Cebu government can clean it up a bit.

Wow!
