Sky-watch Friday: Advice from a Tree

Stand Tall and Proud Sink your roots deeply into the Earth Reflect the light of a greater source Think long term Go out on a limb Remember your place among all living beings Embrace with joy the changing seasons For each yields its own abundance The Energy and Birth of Spring The Growth and Contentment of Summer The Wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter... ~ Ilan Shamir, Advice from a Tree
Buri Tree (Corypha elata Roxb) is a palm from which three kinds of fibers, namely buri, raffia and buntal are obtained. Photos were taken in a Tayabas forest.

Love the tree! Do you have any idea what it is (I'm useless with most flora and fauna)?

Happy Sky Watching!

Oh, and I've been meaning to tell you — your Fritz is so cute!!!

this makes me think...what if i post this saying to each and every tree in the rainforest. (just pushing a concept to absurdity ;-)) and so the analogy goes that when that tree is cut...the wisdom is ignored as well.

hello, gizelle! both trees are buri, the one in the top photo has no leaves left, those are all fruits.

i've bookmarked your new link...will change them in my blogroll. thanks for droppin' by.

humans are apparently thick-headed, bernadette.:D we seldom learn lessons, we have short memory span. illegal loggers have selective memory---while cutting trees, they refuse to remember the landslides that already killed thousands. i guess they're only thinking of the profit they're going to make...that's the only wisdom they recognize.

my friend (who owns this property in Tayabas) and his family have been having fighting with illegal loggers and NPAs for many years. the army even used to camp in these forests. so imagine their anxiety when my friends and i decided to stay here overnight!:D kaya pala may bodyguard kami (haha).

hi, ysrael! ang laging tanong sa akin, lalo na sa telepono...ikaw ba ang anino ni Luna Mystika? hahaha

I didn't realize that buri trees get to grow that high. :)

hi, Panaderos! it can grow as tall as 40 meters, and as old as 65 years. it only bears fruit when it reaches 40 years old, and when it's all fruits and no leaves like the buri in the top photo, it will soon die. my brother told me all these, he read it somewhere.:D
