Wordless Wednesday: Calamba church

The church of Calamba, made of adobe and built in the 19th century. This is where the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, was baptized on June 22, 1861 (three days after he was born).

Wordless Wednesday: rest stop

My friends and I have been walking in the forest for about an hour when we found this resting place. It was a welcome sight after hiking through muddy trails, bitten by insects, and a leech fattening itself at my heel. I even slipped once and landed on an undignified heap by a tree stump (my bruised rear is still smarting). Good thing, nobody else had a camera.:D

with our guide cum bodyguard, Harvey

Photos were taken in a Tayabas forest last Sunday. Tayabas is a town in Quezon province, 132 kilometers south of Manila. The road trip took us almost 5 hours from Makati after being lost twice and asking directions from policemen, pedestrians, jeepney drivers and street vendors. But it was so much fun! More photos in the next few days.

Wordless Wednesday: compulsive licker

I spied on this cat one morning sunning himself on my neighbor's parked car---he was intently licking himself. He was still at it when I came back about half an hour later. This cat couldn't seem to stop licking himself...a cat with OCD? :D

Wordless Wednesday: a beginning of a friendship?

A bone-weary tom cat lounges on a stack of plastic chairs having a cat nap. From the scars on his face, it looks like Tommy the cat has been in a cat-fight, or just living a hard life. I imagine he's sick of the street-life, hungry days and lonely nights, and would like to retire in a warm, cozy home.

Fritz was excited to see Tommy and wanted to play (wags his tail) but the tom cat was not in the mood for anything. He stares condescending at Fritz, shifts his scrawny body and contemplates his next move.

Apparently, Tommy the cat has nowhere to go so he settled comfortably on his plastic throne. Fritz, the pushover, waits it out hoping Tommy the cat would come down and play.

Wordless Wednesday: Betis church

Photos outside Betis church in Guagua town, Pampanga. The church was close as well as the church museum when I dropped by last week (I thought churches do not close!). The owner of the furniture company I visited nearby told me that their church has picturesque interiors, with beautiful painted ceiling comparable to Sistine Chapel's ceiling and intricate wood carvings. Baroque-inspired Betis church was built in 1660 and was completed in 1770. Unfortunately, it was the museum's caretaker's day-off so I drove off without seeing the inside of the church. Betis is known for their woodcarvers and wood sculptors, with wood carving industry as the main source of livelihood. Religious images, frescoes, retablos, and ornate furniture are Betis artisans' expertise.

Oh, not wordless after all.

Wordless Wednesday: wishes

Mayumi's wishing well at Eden Nature Park in Davao City

You can have anything you want if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose.

~ Abraham Lincoln

Wordless Wednesday: Rainbow

Wordless Wednesday

Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.

Wordless Wednesday: a Baguio afternoon
