Max's Pancit Canton

Pancit Canton is ever present on every Filipino dining table at every occasion, from birth to death and in between. While I am more of a Pancit Bihon kind of girl, I couldn't say no to my mother when she's craving for Max's Pancit Canton. She cooks a mean Pancit Canton at home but taking her to Max's to eat Pancit Canton is a real treat for her---it's probably her comfort food.

Like you, I've tasted different versions of Pancit Canton---from the typical turo-turo to Aristocrat, from Buddy's to Ado's to Ma Mon Luk, Panciteria San Jacinto to Dahlia --a motel in Pasig (pancit aficionados swear Dahlia's pancit canton is legendary). But my mom's favorite is not bad at all--it's actually delicious and not drowned in oil. I suspect my mother has some nice, unforgettable memory that goes with Max's pancit canton.:p

Lasang Pinoy turns ONE!

No Filipino celebration is complete without pancit (noodles), and to celebrate Lasang Pinoy, Sundays 1st anniversary, I am serving up a plateful of Hong-Kong-style crispy noodles to all LaPiS enthusiasts.

My first LaPiS entry was in July 27th, 2008---this is my 25th entry. This meme has brought lots of fun to my journey in photography. Cheers to tasteful, mouth-watering, lip-smacking food!

Cantonese style noodles

Pansit (or noodles) is probably one Pinoy dish that is ever present in a Filipino gathering, especially in a birthday celebration. It's traditional to serve pansit on birthdays because the noodles is said to represent everybody's wish for the celebrator's long life.

Luk Yuen's Cantonese style noodles is a friend's favorite. It's a little sweet, no veggies, no other meat but strips of ham, and garnished with sesame seeds. Below is the traditional Pansit Canton, noodles are sauteed with with pork, shrimps, liver, fish balls and veggies (cabbage and carrots). Pansit Canton and Puto (rice cake) with cheese were brought over by my landlady yesterday afternoon---it was her 68th birthday. With a bottle of soda, it was a perfect Sunday merienda!
