Bird's-eye view/Sky-Watch Friday

On a late morning flight to Cebu.
Look closely at the second photo---there's Taal Volcano down below.
More photos of the volcano here.

Morning flight [SWF]

@ mirandablue
There's nothing much to see at my sky right now.  It's just a blanket of grey.  A typhoon went and another arrived---what can I say, we're a typhoon super-highway.  So I'm sharing with you skies from a few months ago, in mid-February to be exact.  Taken in Clark Field during the hot air balloon festival.

I felt like a kid as I watched the light planes glide across the morning sky.  I stood, my eyes turned upward, as they soared to the clouds, weightless in flight.

Sky-watching at the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

@ mirandablue
We were in Clark on Sunday for the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.  Left Manila around 4 am but the traffic started to crawl as soon as we get past the Angeles exit.  All roads lead to Clark on Sunday morning.

Vehicles were parked on both sides of the main road, many were trying to get closer to the venue and it created a huge traffic jam. We decided to park and walked the remaining 2 kilometers to the venue.  The morning breezes were cooler while we were walking but by 11 am, the heat became almost unbearable.  Aside from the huge tents put up by organizers, spectators [except us] brought their own tents, hats, and umbrellas.  We only had sunblock.:p

We missed the early launching of the other hot air balloons.  Good thing these three remained  in the field.  Colorful kites, light aircrafts and paragliders mesmerized and delighted aviation enthusiasts and sky-watchers.

Booths selling food and drinks and souvenirs were all over the venue.  All the major fast-food chains were present.  Aviation schools, kite associations, Canon, and resorts had booths as well.

Above the clouds [SWF]

I love flying. Takeoffs always make me sleepy, the motion of the plane as it accelerates off the ground lulls me to sleep. I seldom take afternoon flights from Cebu to Manila---but on this trip, I was so tired that I opted to board a late afternoon flight to get home a bit early. And I was rewarded with this orange glow at the horizon.

Sky-Watching over Seoul

Flying over Seoul, South Korea on my way to America in August.

These were taken about thirty minutes after take off from Incheon International Airport while the guy beside me was slurping over his noodle soup. The spicy aroma filled the cabin that made my mouth water, but listening to the slurps, I focused my attention outside the window instead. And wondered which direction North Korea was.:p

Sky-Watch Friday: clouds over Cebu

Sky-watching a few minutes after take off from Mactan-Cebu International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

My trips to Cebu these past 10 years have always been a source of fun and excitement. Even when I go to Cebu for work, it always feels like a vacation. I return to work rejuvenated, creative juices flowing again. It's probably the unhurried pace in Cebu, and there is a calming effect at the thought that at the end of the day, one could sit back and sip mojitos by the sea, or luxuriate in a 90-minute massage at 300 pesos, or enjoy fresh oysters under capiz lanterns. I got back from Cebu late Tuesday afternoon...but here I am, already looking forward to my next Cebu trip.

Sky-watching at 35,000 feet

“A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed...It feels an impulsion...this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.”
~ Richard Bach
