Punta Bulata: Kids at the beach

@ mirandablue
Two kids at the beach before sunset...picking up pebbles, shells and other treasures.  This scene evokes childhood memories---of an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the afternoons were filled with fragrance of roasted coffee, fried saba [banana] and burning leaves.

For Thursday 2 Questions - you are invited to answer and join.

1.  What are the smells of your childhood?

  • i always associate the aroma of coffee with childhood. Probably because my grandmother roasted coffee and coffee was always brewing in her kitchen.  Burning leaves, freshly mown grass, Vicks VapoRub, fresh laundry (before the age of fabric conditioner, when towels and blankets smelled like  summer sun), baby powder.

2.  What was your favorite place when you were a child?

  • i was always climbing trees---i loved hanging out on the branches of a guava or aratiles  tree (Jamaican cherry, Muntingia) in front of our house.  probably the reason why i love being on the roof top, or any elevated places.

P.S.  I will be out of town for two days..will catch up when I get back.  Thank you for stopping by.

Oh I love the lighting on these images. It enhanced the vibe of the place.

Hi, Miranda!
You're the perfect guest at TTQ today!

My childhood scents: baby powder, vicks (haha! I use Ka Luwi's haplosil now!), fresh milk, and scents of people I love (I still remember everybody's scent including our old dog Vincent!)

My favorite place was home. I can read (we have sets of books!), have music all day, draw all day, play and have yummy home cooked food.

Surprisingly, except for milk, I still have all of those with me!

1. I remember the smell of the pasta sauce that she would make. She would get up early in the morning and cook everything from scratch and it just made my mouth water. I think most of my memories have to do with food since I am from a big Italian and Greek family who loves their food :)

2. My favorite place was Santa Cruz, we went there every Summer. I was just back there a couple of months ago and it brought back such wonderful memories.

I'd have to say coffee is one of my most memorable fragrances, too. I recall spending the night with my grandparents and my grandma brewing coffee on the stove burner. Do you remember those old fashion pot that percolated?

My favorite place was spent with my best friend, Anita. I just loved playing Barbie dolls with her. She was the sweetest person and so pretty. I wanted to be just like her.

1. My favorite smell as a kid was narcissis when they bloomed wild around our home in spring.
2. My favorite place was to run free in the fields and wooded areas around our farm.

Your beach scenes are absolutely gorgeous.

One the smells of my childhood was fresh baked bread, my grandmother baked her own breads. Another smell is roses as the same grandmother had a yard filled with different kinds of roses.

We had a large yard with a wooded area behind the house. I always loved to play in the woods and pretend I was an explorer.

Wow..I love coffee (lol)..what deep connections- The first time I had fried banana was when my sister fixed it and it was after she moved to Hawaii. I loved fresh mown grass to and Vicks (ha ha)..my Grandma's house (very old and distinct)..the smell of Plumeria flowers blowing in the fresh breeze at the Honolulu airport. My mom's cooking.
I'm from S. California but have lived more than half my life on the Big Island.
Disneyland (we were able to visit now and then)..being out of doors, the beach (Huntington Beach Calif.), a few parks and what camping trips we took. Our family was big so we didn't take many long trips.
Anyhow, I enjoyed your post- oh, my gosh..I just caught that- you liked roof tops!! I used to climb them at the highschool where I eventually went. I loved it too-

Congratulations on being featured!

The smells of my childhood are not good. I do not like to return there.

2. My favorite place as a child was climbing to the tallest tree and limb where I feel I would either fall or fly. It was my only escape, except in books.

Aloha!

The beach has always been my favorite place to go when I was a child. I have no specific smells that I can remember growing up!
