We crossed Bauang bridge a little before 7 o'clock on Saturday morning on our way to Vigan. McArthur Highway runs through this bridge connecting Manila to Northern Luzon provinces of Ilocos Sur and Norte. Bauang bridge is located in Bauang, La Union province, about 259 kilometers north of Manila.
From the banks of Bauang River, the remnants of an old PNR railroad bridge are seen. The railway bridge, completed in 1929, was the longest bridge ever built by the Manila Railroad Company. It survived World War II and earthquakes. According to the Heritage Conservation Society, the railroad bridge was abandoned after the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo destroyed most of its tracks.
