Borawan Island - Weekend Snapshot

We were expecting rain that Labor Day weekend but we didn't count the possibility of getting caught in the rain while on a boat to Borawan Island. The rain and the spray were cold, and although we had life jackets on and the boat ride was smooth, I knew some of our companions were getting uncomfortable. To break the ice, Cloyd started joking around about "grouping yourselves into two's if we need to unload." Then mimicked a preflight safety speech in Tagalog. Nervous laughter all around.

Our outrigger boat seemed smaller in the middle of Tayabas Bay, rain poured but thankfully, we rode on placid waters until we reached Borawan Island. Collective sigh of relief when we docked at the beach.

Borawan Island is about 30 minutes across The Tamarind Tree in Padre Burgos. But because we came from Puting Buhangin, our boat ride was almost an hour. It's within the mountain range of Brgy. Lipata with a terrain overlooking Tayabas Bay. The narrow shoreline of pebbled beach, rocks and limestone cliffs make up this rugged slice of paradise. Except for few newly-built huts, the place has no amenities---so if you're for a rugged and isolated beach experience, you'd love Borawan Island, like I did. This place is also great for rock-climbing, and I'm sure the forest above the cliffs is worth exploring.
