Sta. Maria Church @ mirandablue |
16th century churches in Ilocandia remain standing after centuries of natural and man-made calamities. On top is the bell tower of Santa Maria Church in Ilocos Sur, below is the beautiful Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte. Both churches are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Such a unique and historical building!
Happy weekend.
My entry is here
Great photos. I am sure that the churches have seen much over the centuries
Wow like to see like that...happy hunting...
Mine is here
these are great churches. love your subjects.
Wow! Both images are breathtaking! I can only imagine what it is like to be there in person. So much history!
I think it's very beautiful. I like how it's weathered by time and remains standing. Great choice.
I think the tropic's heat and humidity have made the structures look older than they are. So it's a real tribute to those who constructed them that they're still standing after all these centuries!
Those are very interesting buildings. I would never have guessed they were catholic churches.
Beautiful shots! I've never been to Ilocos, sana this summer makapunta ako. :)
Have a wonderful weekend.
Standing
What an awesome place! This was my first time participating in the Photohunt :)

These are two awesome shots. It is so fascinating the difference in the way the two churches have aged through the years. You captured them so beautifully I feel like I am actually standing there looking at them in person.
Charming, very special!! =) and so very old! :)
definitely one of the most impressive in the country.
I hope they preserve it.
Paoay Church: Probably one of the most imposing churches in the country...
They should clean up the facade/remove those plants ! :-(
(Sigh! And those are UNESCO World Heritage Sites)
Is the parish priest sleeping on the job :-(
i never knew Paoay church is that beautiful. i love to see it in person!

i've been to these 2 churches more than a few times and i am missing ilocos big time!
PS : I can't comment using my http://docgelo.wordpress.com account; don't know why. :c
These churches look almost as if the could be naturally occurring formations of the earth. I love them both. You've photographed them beautifully, too. The top one especially looks like a vintage postcard, old and other-worldly.
Very special churches ! They look beautiful and so interesting !
