Bridges of Bauang [Sunday Bridges]

@ mirandablue
We crossed Bauang bridge a little before 7 o'clock on Saturday morning on our way to Vigan.   McArthur Highway runs through this bridge connecting Manila to Northern Luzon provinces of Ilocos Sur and Norte.  Bauang bridge is located in Bauang, La Union province, about 259 kilometers north of Manila.

From the banks of Bauang River, the remnants of an old PNR railroad bridge are seen.  The railway bridge, completed in 1929, was the longest bridge ever built by the Manila Railroad Company.  It survived World War II and earthquakes.  According to the Heritage Conservation Society, the railroad bridge was abandoned after the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo destroyed most of its tracks.

This looks to be a very straightforward type of bridge!

I like the colour of the bridge, it has a warmth of sandstone. Lovely skies and a peaceful feel make for a great photo. The second one has beautiful skies.
Thank you for visiting and your kind words.☺

The sky is really, really nice in both photos. I like the way the bridge leads the eye into the photo. NICE!

we've crossed this bridge several times already but it's only on your photos that i get to appreciate it.
sometimes, we really need to pause a while to value the beauty of surroundings.

«Louis» thanks you for this contribution to Sunday Bridges. MacArthur is evidently still a hero to many in the Philippines. He was a difficult man and had a monster ego, but he tried to do the right thing both in the Philippines during the war and after the war as governor of Japan.

Louis, you're right, many Filipinos still regard MacArthur as a hero. I've read a few books about him and you're right about his ego and temper. He also made some bad decisions during the war.:p
