Tinapa with a twist

Our humble tinapa (smoked fish) has finally arrived! A bit surprised when I read tinapa in the menu---what's tinapa doing in a "high-end" resto? But check out these crisp tinapa rolls wrapped in fresh lettuce leaf and served with spicy vinegar dip, each bite was divine! This appetizer totally changed my mind about tinapa, I even ordered tinapa rice. Tinapa overload--and it was all delicious!

Recommended by a friend, I was curious at the hype (Ate Shawie and other celebs promoted this restaurant), tried it and now I understand. Mesa-Filipino Moderne at Greenbelt 5 serves Filipino dishes with a twist, the authentic flavor is there, but the presentation is entirely different. Took an American boss there last week, and he was quite impressed...especially with the River Shrimps (Suahe) on the Rocks. Fresh shrimps were loaded in an earthen pot containing hot rocks---shrimps sizzled and voila---they're cooked before your eyes, a creative way of preparing halabos (steamed shrimps). I'll take a photo next time, promise.:p

  1. I am a lover of tinapa! In fact, I just got back from a neighboring county to buy tinapang bangus. I'll be dreaming of that crisp tinapa roll until I get to taste it. You sure know how to gastronomically torture people LOL.
