To most pliers of our trade,
We are caught up in sirens' songs,
That we do not seek to evade.
We are caught up in sirens' songs,
That we do not seek to evade.
Circe and Calypso
Are sirens marvelous to behold,
And though they greet us every day,
There's no hint of growing old.
Circe is the newborn sun,
That hails us every day,
While Calypso is the oceanic arena
Upon which we play.
Calypso is such a beautiful mistress,
Though she is sometimes exceedingly cruel,
But most of the time is quite benign,
So we live by this inconstant rule.
What is it that defines a fisherman?
Is there a rule that sets us apart?
The answer's straightforward and simple,
For us fishing's an affair of the heart.

A fisherman's life is hard.
very nice photos, kitang kita ang ganda ng kalikasan.
Very nice photos of boats and water!
Beautiful post, and lovely poem!
Fishermen are very admirable for their bravery, being subject to the elements daily. It's nice to see old-fashioned fishermen with their nets and bangcas again.
That's very nice, Luna.
(teka, pakinggan ko muna damien rice's song in the background... fave ko yan... blower's daughter... "did i say that i loathe you, did i say that i wanted to leave it all behind...")

I sure would love to be in that outrigger sailing!
Great shots Luna!
Nice poem. I would love to experience real fishing.
What wonderful shot of the sea and also the fishermen with his outrigger.
Great shots of the boats and the water.
one of the things that i want to experience doing is actually fishing. i will do it next year.
Those boats remind me of our life in Karomatan. We lived near the sea and sometimes we helped in the net fishing. Another memory made from home. Thanks for the post and the visit. :)
This is a beautiful OW post Miranda.
Thanks so much for your visit to the Back Porch.
We usually keep water, at our lake place. As we were driving down Monday, we discussed the bottled water supply. We were sure we had a couple of gallons in the storage closet. Not this time. We are well stocked now, though.
We don't have typhoons, but we do have severe thunderstorms and ice storms and have been without power and water, several days, so usually don't let our stock pile of water and other needs, in either of our homes, get low. We were once "snowed in", when we lived on our farm, for several days. After that, we not only kept the supplies we needed, we bought a 4 wheel drive vehicle. :-)
What a pretty scene!!! Love these photos. [ps...your link in OW takes us to October 23rd! post]
My post for Wednesday is now published. Click Here to join me. I'd love for you to stop by today.
Beautiful photos! Every one of them!

It looks pretty. Happy watery Wednesday.
Mine is here
That is the perfect poem for those shots!
I visited your other link and enjoyed the horses as well. So this is a double treat.
Happy OW to you...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Not sure if you got my other post, but I enjoyed visiting here (love the poem and the pictures) and at your other spot for the horses.
I'd love for you to come visit me, too. I celebrated St. Augustine's Spanish heritage with a trip to the fort on my post today.
What a lovely series of photos. We don't often see "working" fisherman. I hope you are having a wonderful Outdoor Wednesday.
Pretty poem. I like to fish but prefer to stay on land when I do. The old motion sickness.

The ocean, sky and shore come together to make beautiful photos here.
