Sun after a storm/SWF

The sun shines through the clouds after the storm.

Twilight After Gorio

Twilight at Manila Bay yesterday, a day after tropical storm "Gorio" (international name:  Rumbia) left the Philippines.   Forecasters predicted typhoon Gorio would hit Metro Manila early Sunday, but it veered away  towards Batangas province then blew away towards the West Philippine Sea.  But it did leave thousands of commuters stranded after ferries cancelled their trips.

Dark clouds trailed behind typhoon Gorio, a humid day punctuated by light rains, the sea was calm and these fishermen were back at sea.  Monday ended with a mellow sunset.

Location:  SM By The Bay, Pasay City.

Ships at sunset/Skywatch Friday

The compass rose is nothing but a star with an infinite number of rays pointing in all directions.

It is the one true and perfect symbol of the universe.

And it is the one most accurate symbol of you.

Spread your arms in an embrace, throw your head back, and prepare to receive and send coordinates for being.

For, at last you know---you are the navigator, the captain, and the ship.

Bruised sky/Skywatch-Friday

From my archive---sunset from the roof deck of my old apartment.

"Mine is the sultry sunset when the skies
Tremble with strange, intolerable thunder:
And at the dead of a hushed night, these eyes
Draw down the soaring oracles winged with wonder..."

True-blue/Skywatch Friday

Even
after
all this time
the Sun never says to the Earth,
"You owe me."

Look
what happens
with a love like that,
it lights the whole sky.

Blue hour @ Manila Bay/Sky-watch Friday

There is a brief period of twilight of which I am especially fond, little more than a moment, when I see what seems to be color without light, followed by another brief period of light without color.  The earlier period, like a dawn of night, calls up such sights that at all other times are hidden, wistful half-formless presences neither of day nor night, that draw up with them similar presences in the mind. ~ Robert Grudin, Time and the Art of Living

Sunset today/Sky-watch Friday

Sunset skies this afternoon, May 9th, at Manila Bay

There is a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they're absolutely free.  Don't miss so many of them.

Twilight @ the east/SWF

These are the skies at twilight from the hilltop at Liloan, Cebu.  The top photo is looking at the northwest, the next three photos are looking towards the east.  The sky was not as as intense as the western sky but the soothing hues of twilight were beautiful nonetheless.

Everything was dry---the grasses were mostly brown, the twigs brittle from the summer heat.  The colorful skies make a beautiful canvas for this otherwise arid and unremarkable landscape.

Twilight from the hill/Sky-watch Friday

around 4:45 PM

I was at the beach in Cebu on Wednesday afternoon taking pictures of sea creatures while my friend's kids were picking sea urchins.  I was waiting for the sunset until my friend told me that the sunset can be seen from the hill where we walked on earlier on the way to the beach.  We retraced our steps and upon reaching the slope, I realized with a tinge of disappointment that we missed the sunset.

We got here around 6:30 PM and the horizon was not as colorful as I expected it to be.
But in a matter of seconds, orange "flames" started to get through the clouds.

In a span of  2 to 3 minutes, the sky turned fiery.
I was mesmerized.

This looks like a ball of fire falling from the sky.

It felt like the sky waited for us to be here at the right moment.
What a spectacle!
Definitely, the greatest show on earth!

Silence is golden.../SWF

Silence

It has a sound, a fullness.
It's heavy with sigh of tree,
and space between breaths.
It's ripe with pause between birdsong
and crash of surf.
It's golden they say,
But no one tells us it's addictive.

After sunset/Sky-Watch Friday

I was meeting friends for dinner on Sunday and I tried to get to the bay walk earlier to catch the sunset.  Unfortunately, I made a wrong turn somewhere and got here a few minutes after sunset.   How did it get so late so soon?
