~ Chinese proverb
The new president and vice-president were proclaimed by Congress the other day. People from different sectors are expecting the newly elected leaders to fulfill their promises of reforms and seriously address the issues of corruption that hounded the Arroyo administration. Noynoy Aquino promised "change" while on the campaign trail---I hope he would back it up with actions as soon as he assumes office.
Happy 112th Independence Day, Philippines!

Hi! Sorry for my late visit. That's a nice photo.
ReplyDeleteI'm hopeful for our new leaders.
What a beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteWho are the Philippines celebrating independence from? Weren't you colonized by America at some point?... And by Spain before that..?
All I know is that lots of Philipinos (is that the right word?) seem to speak with broad American accents, whereas many Asians from the South-East and East seem to speak British English (and yet to write with American spellings!)
hi, Gledwood! We were celebrating independence from 377 years of Spanish colonial rule. Yes, we were also colonized by America for 48 years. There was even a 2-year British occupation in the 17th century.
ReplyDeleteCitizens of the Philippines are called Filipinos. I'm not sure about American accents--those who probably lived in the US at some point speak with an American accent, or call center agents who have been assigned to handle US accounts.:p
