Pomelo Shrimp Salad

It's been awhile since I posted a pomelo shrimp salad, so here it is.  This is from Jatujak, a Thai bistro.  I love the succulent shrimps and luscious pomelo in this sweet-spicy concoction.  A scrumptious starter!

Oyster Omelet

@ mirandablue
Bagoong Fried Rice
I have written here that I prefer raw oysters, but if there's none available and I'm eating it with rice, then an oyster omelet would somehow fix the craving.  The delicate flavor of oysters was perfectly complemented by the tasty bagoong (shrimp paste) fried rice.  It was a delicious meal at Penang Hill in Shangri-la.

Pla Rad Prik

@ mirandablue
It's nothing fancy, really.  Pla Rad Prik is Jatujak's deep-fried whole fish with garlic chili sauce.  Amazed how this pla-pla was filleted with the bones intact.  The sauce, as usual, was excellent.

Thai Spring Rolls

@ mirandablue

Did I tell you that I love appetizers?  I demolished these Thai spring rolls in one sitting.  My friend was running late for our dinner at Jatujak and while waiting, I munched on these scrumptious spring rolls.  Each roll was brimming with flavors of pork, shrimps, cilantro, mushrooms, bean sprouts.  The sweet chili sauce is to die for! After I finished 3 rolls, I asked for more sauce, planning to leave the 2 rolls for my friend.  But after a few minutes, I reached for the 4th, then the last one.  When my friend arrived, I was grinning like a Cheshire cat.:p

Seafood Salad

@ mirandablue
Yam Talay or mixed seafood salad at Jatujak in Mall of Asia.  It's my favorite Thai restaurant these days.  I eat at Jatujak when my taste buds are bored with the usual fares and need a little excitement.  I haven't explored the rest of the menu yet and I am trying a few dishes at a time.  This was our second appetizer--a seafood salad with a mixture of shrimps, mussels, squid and fish with onions, cilantro, with sweet and spicy lime-vinegar dressing.  Incredibly scrumptious!

Moo Grob

Crisp and crunchy pork belly or Moo Grob is a simple Thai dish that is potentially deadly to those with high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol level.   Moo Grob was served with Jatujak's addicting spicy cilantro relish---it makes you forget you're eating deep fried pork belly and pork cracklings (chicharon).  Delightful with steamed rice or ice cold beer, or both.

Jatujak appetizer

My taste buds were craving for something spicy and I found myself at Jatujak, a Thai resto at Megamall.  Here's the sampler appetizer for our entree---shrimp cakes, fresh and fried spring rolls with 3 kinds of dip.  Everything on this plate was scrumptious, the dips were simply divine!  The spicy dip has a kick that hurts like hell, but in a good way.:p

Tofu all the way

Tofu @ Pho Hoa

Call it tofu, or bean curd, it's made from soybeans which are considered a "complete" protein---it's a powerhouse of nutrition, an adaptable friend to cooks, the treasure of the health conscious and those who are perpetually on diet. These are the tofu dishes I've shared with my friend---she is on diet. I "think" I am on diet, therefore, I am.:p

I am not crazy about tofu but I know it is an excellent source of vegetarian protein, and really good for me, but sometimes the taste buds rule the mind. Need to remind myself when I'm face to face with tofu that it's cholesterol-free as all plant-based foods are, low in calories and a good source of B-vitamins and iron. Lacking pronounced flavors of its own, tofu picks up the flavors around it as evident from these three tofu dishes in different flavors--above is a tofu dish from Pho Hoa, a Vietnamese restaurant; below is tofu with vegetables from MyThai, and the last one is batter fried tofu with agedashi sauce from Red Kimono, a Japanese resto.

Tofu was invented centuries ago in China.

Steamed lapu-lapu, Thai-style

One of my favorite restaurants in Cebu is Cafe Georg in Banilad. This place is a hangout of coffee and dessert lovers. Their menu offers an eclectic mix---from healthy to sinful, homey to adventurous. I had lunch at Cafe Georg when I was in Cebu recently and opted for this healthy steamed lapu-lapu, Thai-style to go with my steamed rice. This dish was spiced just right and enhanced by the fresh flavor of cilantro. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Thai cuisine---it's never boring!

Thai Crunch Salad

I love free wi-fi, don't you? Good thing my hotel here in Cebu has wi-fi, the downside is---I'm still writing emails after working hours. I'm taking a break to finish this post and send your taste buds to heaven with this deliciously refreshing Thai Crunch Salad from CPK.

I almost didn't make it...working till late as usual. The dinner was almost over when I got to CPK-Shangrila last Saturday, but the girls waited for me---friends need to break bread once in a while. I attacked the leftover pizza and pasta Jambalaya, and instead of the usual Original BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad, I ordered this Thai Crunch Salad.

It's a mixture of shredded Napa cabbage, chilled-grilled chicken breast, julienne cucumbers, edamame, crispy wontons, peanuts, cilantro, julienne carrots, red cabbage and green onions tossed with a lime-cilantro dressing. Topped with crispy rice sticks and Thai peanut dressing. I love the combination of lime-cilantro and Thai peanut dressing---scrumptious and zesty!

Try this one the next time you're in CPK.
