Natural, bida ngayon ang alaga ko, si Fritz. Para sa akin, si Fritz ang pinaka-poging aso sa balat ng lupa.  Malambing sya, mabait, mabango at kasalukuyang naghihilik sa tabi ko.  Medyo spoiled itong alaga ko...kadalasan, nagpapasubo pa.  Biro ng mga kaibigan ko, sayang lang daw ag binubuhos kong pagmamahal at atensyon kay Fritz.  Buti pa daw ang kalabaw, napapakinabangan.  Hindi ko minamaliit ang halaga at pakinabang ng kalabaw [lalo na sa mga magsasaka], pero pwede ko bang yakapin at halikan ito?

Naturally, Fritz is the star of today's post.  For me, he is the handsomest dog in the planet.  He's sweet, gentle, smells good and right now, snoring beside me.  I admit, Fritz is a bit spoiled...more often than not, he nibbles on his food but eats heartily when spoon-fed.  Friends love to tease me that I have a bad case of misplaced love for a pet, after all, Fritz couldn't do things for me.  While I don't underestimate the value and usefulness of a water buffalo [especially to farmers], I don't think I could hug or kiss this animal.

Trivia:  In 2004, the first test-tube hybrid carabao [water buffalo] was born in the Philippine Carabao Center in Nueva Ecija, and was named "Glory" after the former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

• yes, I believe Fritz understands me.  certain words prompt him, he responds to my [tone of] voice.

2)  What is the most endearing trait of our pet?

• Fritz is most endearing when he lays his head on my leg and waits to be scratched; my heart melts every time he runs to the door to welcome me home, or licks my nose when I tell him I love him.

Isa sa walong aso sa resort sa Punta Bulata si Magic.  Masaya lahat ang mga aso na sumalubong sa amin pero itong si Magic ang napansin ko.  Panay ang lapit sa akin, parang friends na kami.  Makinis ang itim nitong balahibo at tulad ng alaga ko, enjoy din si Magic habang kinakamot sa ulo. Malambing si Magic at di ko man lang narinig kumahol.  Sabi pa ng caretaker ng resort, mahilig daw itong maligo sa dagat.  Nakabantay s'ya lagi sa dining area, pero pagkatapos ng tanghalian, di ko na s'ya napansin.  At alam mo ba kung nasaan si Magic?

Heto...nagpa-power nap.  Ang sarap ng buhay!

Magic is one of the 8 dogs at the resort in Punta Bulata.  All 8 dogs happily greeted us when we arrived but it was Magic who caught my eye.  He was very friendly, constantly rubbing his nose on my leg as if we were long-time friends.  I loved his smooth black fur and he loved being scratched---just like my baby.  The resort caretaker told me that Magic loves to take a swim at the sea.  He's usually lounging at the dining area but after lunch, I didn't see him again.  I wondered where he was.  Well, I found him napping at this recliner, facing the sea.  What a great life he has!

• What do you think of dogs?

A dog is indeed (wo)man's best-friend.  Dogs love unconditionally. You tell your dog the nastiest things about you, and he loves you anyway.  They're uncomplicated, warm and sweet and would do anything for a little affection.

• If you have a dog(s), tell me about him/her.

This is Fritz, a 4-year old Japanese spitz half-breed.  My nephew calls him half spitz, half bisaya, to which he answers with a roar.  Fritz is gentle and good-natured, he loves kids and very popular in the neighborhood, in the mall, and everywhere we go. He has a crush on our neighbor's dog, Kimchu. When I'm home, he wants me to sit beside him at feeding time, and sometimes prefers to be spoon-feed by nobody else but me.  He loves to drink water straight from the fridge--he would wait for cold water being poured into his bowl before drinking.  He walks straight to the bathroom when you tell him it's bath time.  Fritz "talks" with his paws when he needs to pee or poop--he always does his business outside.  He waits for me to come home every night, restless until I arrive.  And seems to understand when I leave the house with luggage---he doesn't wait up and sleeps early.  Oh, I can go on and on and on...I guess you can never really understand the love between a (wo)man and a dog unless you have one.

Favorite toy [Paboritong laruan]

Si Fritz ang paborito kong laruan at ang purple dumbbell naman ang sa kanya.  Pinapatunog n'ya ang rubber dumbbell habang tumatakbo sa maliit naming bahay.  Marami s'yang laruan at  gula-gulanit na nang pinagsawaan n'ya.

Fritz is my favorite toy while his is the purple rubber dumbbell.  He loves the squeaky noise of the dumbbell while he's running around in our small apartment.  He's got lots of toys but most of them have been ripped up after he's bored with them.

This fuzzy image was the result of my effort to capture movement but forgot to set the camera correctly.  I was using a new camera then and had a vague and fuzzy idea how the buttons worked.  

Fritz was not in the mood to look at the camera and showed me his fuzzy behind instead.  Bad dawg!

Fountain at BHS [Watery & Outdoor Wednesday]

While at the fountain area in Bonifacio High Street on Sunday evening, I was captivated by the colorful reflection of lights on water.   Isn't it magical?

When Fritz noticed I was preoccupied with taking photos of the water and fountain, he wanted to climb on the ledge of the eternity pool.  Ivar carried him to the ledge but the tip of his tail got into the water and we ended up with sprays of water while he's drying up.  Afraid he might fall into the water, I eventually got him down.

Silent, quiet [Tahimik]

Gusto kong bigyan pugay si Seb Chua, ang gumawa ng sculpture na ito sa Eastwood Mall.  Istatwa ng aso at tao na tinawag n'yang "Silent Companion".

Nakakalungkot ang kalagayan ng maraming aspin na pakalat-kalat sa kalsada.  Naturingan na "man's best-friend" pero bakit maraming umaabuso sa aso?  Nag-aalala ako kapag umuulan kung may nasisilungan ba sila.  Nakakakain ba sila at hindi pinag-mamalupitan?

Ang pag-alaga ng anumang hayop ay isang responsibilidad.  Nagugutom, nauuhaw, nasasaktan at nangangailangan sila ng kalinga.  Sana h'wag balewalain at pabayaan na lang.

Si Fritz, ang aking tahimik na kaibigan at kasama.  Naghihintay at masayang sumasalubong sa akin sa pinto, taga-gising ko sa umaga, nakakapawi sa pagod, nakakapagpangiti at nakakapagpasaya sa akin, at tahimik na nakikinig lang sa mga hinaing ko.  Hindi man s'ya nakakapagsalita, alam n'yang mahal ko s'ya.  At sa pagkawag lang ng kanyang buntot, alam kong masaya din s'ya.

Bridges of Eastwood City [Sunday Bridges]

Foot bridges in the middle of an urban jungle called Eastwood City, connecting the mall to residential and commercial buildings.  I like coming to this mall because of the pet-friendly environment--my dog loves walking around the air-conditioned mall.  There is a pond/water garden with dancing fountains and a small park where dogs and people can enjoy live performances.

Akin [mine] - Litratong Pinoy

Huli na pala ako ngayong Hwebes---hindi ko namalayan, hapon na pala! Medyo masama kasi ang lagay ng panahon, hirap ng tumatanda.:p Pero kahit late na, sali pa rin ako.

Kilala mo na si Fritz, siya ang star sa LP ko ngayon. Very possessive si Fritz pagdating sa kanyang mga laruan. Hindi mo mahipo ang mga laruan nya at kahit pabiro mong kukunin, agad nakahawak ang kanyang mga "kamay". Tingnan mo ang hitsura nya---parang sinasabi nya, "Akin 'to, bakit mo inaagaw?"

Wala pa naman s'yang nakagat.:p

Lick [Photo-Hunt]

I wanted to be creative with today's theme but couldn't resist posting Fritz wearing his e-collar and caught licking his nose. This was taken the morning after our hasty trip to the vet two weeks ago. According to the vet, licking is a part of a dog's normal survival-oriented behavior. Licking their own lips, limbs, and trunk removes traces of the last meal that would otherwise begin to decompose and smell. Quite apart from the hygienic aspects of this behavior, it also serves to keep dogs relatively odor-free and undetectable from predators.

With Fritz, there is no doubt that he licks my feet and slurps my nose as a loving gesture.

New look

Here's Fritz' new look as of Thursday night. How'd you like his Elizabethan collar? Fetching, isn't it? Kidding aside, Fritz gave me a fright the other night when I got home from work and found his left eye red and swollen. He yelped when the area near his swollen eye was touched even so gently. I brought him to the Animal House and after the vet checked his eyes, temperature, got some blood for testing, the vet's assistant attached this collar. He didn't protest at first but when he started to bump into chairs and walls, he tried to pry himself out of the collar. Poor baby!

This collar really helps---since he is not able to scratch his eye, the swelling and redness subsided by Friday morning. The vet prescribed an ointment for his eyes that I apply twice a day, an antibiotic (because of his elevated WBC) and pain reliever. Today, he is back to his normal self except for this collar. The neighbors, especially the kids, are all fascinated at his new look.:p
