Photo-Hunt: painted capiz

These decorative figurines were crafted from tin, laminated with capiz shell and hand-painted. Exquisitely painted, these semi-flat figurines were mounted on MDF base and stand approximately 12 inches tall. Designed by a Filipino designer, these have been exported to US and Europe. I have been working with this medium for so long but I wasn't aware until recently that tin figurines are some of the most precious and hard-to-find collectibles. Reproductions are easily found in tourist souvenir shops and flea markets, but the originals are highly prized.

  10. My!...this is ART...i remember seeing something like this when I was in the Philippines although I am not sure if they were made with capiz.
Capiz reminds me of the old house of my grandparents, the windows were made of capiz but my uncle who is a modernist had it renovated.
